Great Barrier Island is a remote location:
Weather: Always take into consideration the weather when planning a trip to Great Barrier Island. |
Life on the Island can be laid back and easy going. The island has limited services compared to a city. Enjoy the difference! |
Be flexible when you plan your time on the island e.g. if easterly conditions prevail its better to go tramping on the western side of the island. |
Things to bring: Torch, sunscreen, good tramping shoes or boot, swimming gear, surfboard & beach towel. |
Cell phones on the Island have very limited coverage operating mainly in Tryphena, Whangaparapara & Port FitzRoy townships at present. |
Banks: There are no banks on the island. It's always best to have some cash. Eftpos machines require power and this is not always available. Cash can be withdrawn on your eftpos or credit card at the information Centre in Tryphena. |
Booking is essential for virtually everything during the summer. Always pre book accommodation, transfers & transport on the island in order to avoid disappointment. |
Accommodation: There is a range of accommodation on the island to suit all visitors. If you want advice on the best places to stay for families, trampers, laid back weekends, places with restaurants or houses by the beach then feel free to submit an enquiry and we will make a recommendation. |
